Starpass is a game designed to ignite children’s love for learning astronomy knowledge. Children can learn the basic skills of observing stars with the star map and play the game with the application with the help of technologies such as holographic and augmented reality.
The absence of basic astronomy education in China has given children little exploration of the astronomy world with right guidance, and has left them missing out the best time to well stimulate their curiosity in science. In response to this problem, I designed an astronomical game of a combination of an iPad game app and a portable hologram device to inspire children by a finding-star game. This game can be a gift kit sold in planetariums as an extend experience of learning astronomy after visit.
Starpass is an education game to ignite children’s love for astronomy. The toolkit is a collaboration product with the planetarium. The container of Starpass is a star map that has a folding structure symbolizes a compass. By opening the map, children can learn the basic skills of finding stars by reading it and get a foldable hologram device and a QR code for downloading game app at the same time. The game is divided into two parts. In the first part, children can place the device on the iPad screen through guidance, and use the skills they learn from the map to control the stereoscopic images projected inside the hologram device to find the stars each game level. In the second part, children can lift their tablet outdoors at night to find the stars with the real-time images captured by augmented reality technology. They can put what they learned before into practice in the practicing part.
